Press release

ZOOOOOOOOOOOM / Mind: A solo exhibition of Ryusuke Sano's latest works exploring individuality and cultural identity.

Sano's artwork captivates viewers with bold, varied brushstrokes, intermingling faces and expressions reminiscent of American pop culture. Each piece highlights the unique individuality of each person, enriched by the artist's signature concept of "zoom," which adds creativity and depth to his work. In an era where individual decisions are often questioned, Sano's art captures daily life—people, plants, animals—through instinctive sketches that blend abstract and figurative imagery, creating a three-dimensional effect. The evolving color tones symbolize intrinsic energy, ensuring each piece resonates deeply with viewers.

Sano's artistic vision is showcased through his series work: His "Face" series stands out with complex compositions and an experimental spirit, blending macro and micro perspectives and recalling early 20th-century Fauvism with a contemporary touch that draws viewers into a rich sense of depth. Influenced significantly by New York, Sano explores "zoom" amidst the city's diverse cultural intersections. His paintings, filled with vitality and detail, reflect the architecture of human creativity and the natural world. Other series like "Alien" and "Jungle" showcase Sano's unique balance and contemporary edge. Influenced by digital creativity and global perspectives, his work blends Eastern ideas with Western art history, resulting in a spontaneous and dynamic approach reminiscent of Abstract Expressionism.

Living in Nagano Prefecture, surrounded by mountains and vast skies, Sano seeks to release the energy he perceives in nature onto his canvases. He aims to create works that capture the essence of human strength and vitality, concentrating the energy of all humanity.

After graduating from Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, Ryusuke Sano moved to New York City. There, free from the distractions of his native Japan, he began pursuing a career as a painter. Upon returning to Tokyo, he participated in various exhibitions and collaborations, culminating in his first solo exhibition in 2018. During this time, Sano developed the “ZOOM” concept, characterized by a mix-context approach influenced by his familiarity with different cultures and backgrounds. Sano currently works across industries, with recent collaborations and advertisements in fashion, music, and other creative fields.
