Press release

Long Story Short is delighted to present Panspermia, the first solo exhibition in France by New York-based painter Yanjun Li.

Panspermia theorizes that life, instead of originating on earth, is dispersed throughout the universe by celestial bodies carryying microorganisms that are deposited when they collide with different planets.

The idea not only connects all of us together with a shared origin, but also connects us all to the far reaches of space and all potential life in the universe. Yanjun Li draws on disparate visuals from the stars and city lights, to patterns of weather and migration, incorporating them into abstract compositions with realistic light.

Lines and shapes converge on each other and explode outward. They shoot across the canvas as beams of light traversing a great void. A cosmic luminosity shines through the transparent layers that reach back into the depths of the image. By using color and composition to bring structure to these free-flowing elements, Li unifies the seemingly distant and evokes the shared origin of all things.
