Long Story Short LA is pleased to present the first US solo show by Jochen Mühlenbrink, J‘M LA WP, on view August 6- September 10, 2022.

Through his window paintings, Jochen manipulates oil paint to create a philosophical commentary on the world around us. These works transform what may otherwise be a mundane scene into an investigation of reality as two scenes simultaneously “exist” within the paintings. As a child glides their finger across condensation on glass, they first come to understand how reality can have more than one focus point.

Delicate trompe l’œil technique and layers of ambiguity create a tension on the canvas and in the viewer between what we know and what we see. This tension is softened by the innocence and nostalgia of finger painting on the fogged surfaces. Suburban homes and colorful landscapes are obscured as an invitation to reconsider the boundaries of what we know to be real and what we perceive to be real.
